The performance «Warum zierst du dich, Taube?» (Why Are You Hesitating, Dove?) was the starting point of NICHE, a performance festival in Zug's old town. Contrary to the festival's theme of niches, the performance addresses the so-called panoptic gaze on the city. This perspective reads the city from above and understands it as a structure.
Fabric strips lying on the ground suggest an intertwined structure. The two performers lift these strips, stretch them in the air, and create figures. They then guide the audience to lift and stretch the strips. Once all the fabric strips are lifted and floating, the performers enter this structure. A spoken section begins, negotiating the relationship between the panoptic and choreographic readings of urban space. The performers address each other, objects, spaces, and the audience. Finally, they place audience members into the fabric structure and guide them to move together as a kind of swarm.
